Description
The white cockatoo, also known as the umbrella cockatoo is an endangered parrot of the Cacatuidae family. It is a medium-sized bird, named for its all-white plumage with yellow under the wings. It has dark eyes and a gray bill. Males are slightly larger and heavier than females.

Distribution and range
The species is endemic to the Maluku Islands of Indonesia. Introduced populations have established in Taiwan and Florida.
Habitat
They inhabit tropical rainforests, mangroves, and cultivated lands.
Diet and feeding habits
Their diet comprises mainly seeds, berries, nuts, and fruit. They also eat small reptiles, insects, and insect larvae, especially during the breeding season.
Nesting and breeding
Cockatoos nest in hollows of trees. Females typically lay two eggs per clutch and the incubation period lasts roughly 28 days. The chicks leave the nest after 12 weeks but remain dependent on the parents for up to 18 weeks.
Status and conservation
The species is in rapid decline due to the exotic pet trade and habitat loss. They are classified as endangered by the IUCN.
