Psittacine beak and feather disease (PBFD) is a viral disease affecting birds all over the world. It attacks the feather follicles and the beak and claw matrices of the bird, causing progressive feather, claw and beak malformation and necrosis. In later stages of the disease, feather shaft constriction occurs, hampering development until eventually, all feather growth stops. It occurs in an acutely fatal form and a chronic form.

La enfermedad del pico y las plumas (PBFD, por sus siglas en inglés) es una enfermedad viral que afecta a las aves alrededor del mundo.
Ataca los folículos de las plumas y las matrices del pico y las garras del ave, provocando malformaciones y necrosis progresivas de las plumas, garras y picos. En etapas posteriores de la enfermedad, se produce una constricción del eje de las plumas, lo que dificulta el desarrollo hasta que finalmente se detiene todo el crecimiento de las plumas. Ocurre en una forma aguda fatal y una forma crónica.
La enfermedad es altamente contagiosa. El PBFD se transmite por contacto directo con aves infectadas o por contaminación del agua o áreas de alimentación.
