Who We Are

IQ Bird Testing is a brand of IQ Genetics, founded in 2017 in Miami, Florida, by a group of local entrepreneurs with years of experience in the avian DNA field. Our goal from day one has been simple: to give bird owners, breeders, and veterinarians fast, accurate, and affordable answers about their birds’ genetics and health.

How we’ve grown

We started with two services: DNA gender determination and viral disease testing. As our customers’ needs grew, so did we. We added bacteriological and parasite testing and then expanded into the poultry world with gene mutation detection for chickens and other Gallus species.

Today we also offer Ultra Express sexing: ship your sample overnight and get results in under 24 hours from the time it reaches our lab.

Our newest step is the IQ Avian Collection Kit, now available on Amazon, which puts everything you need to collect and send a sample right at your door.

Our technology

Our lab uses PCR and real-time PCR (qPCR), the same molecular methods used in human and veterinary diagnostics. DNA and RNA are extracted and purified on automated systems, which reduces handling errors and keeps results consistent from sample to sample.

Research and conservation partners

We collaborate with biology departments at several universities, as well as zoos and non-profit organizations dedicated to protecting bird species. These partnerships keep our methods current and let us contribute to research and conservation of avian life.

What sets us apart

Every sample is processed in our own lab in Miami by a team of veterinarians, biologists, and genetics specialists. Our lab is certified by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), and our DNA gender tests are 99% accurate. More than 30,000 customers across the US have trusted us with their birds, and every certificate we issue can be independently verified online using our Certificate Validation tool.
