About this test

C locus / TYR (Tyrosinase) – Black Pigmentation Inhibitor

Possible Results: Homozygous Colored (does not affect pigmentation) / Heterozygous (affects black pigmentation).

Function: Tyrosinase catalyzes the first steps of melanin production (tyrosine → DOPA → dopaquinone). It is the gatekeeper enzyme of pigmentation. If TYR is non-functional, no melanin is produced (neither eumelanin nor pheomelanin)

In Ayam Cemani/Silkie Chicken: Any loss-of-function TYR alleles (the classic “c locus” alleles) eliminate pigmentation, producing white/cream plumage and pale skin regardless of EDN3 or MC1R status
