About the Ayam Cemani & Silkie Fibromelanosis (EDN3) DNA Test

The Fibromelanosis (EDN3 duplication) DNA test is the definitive genetic test for Ayam Cemani, Silkie, Svart Höna (Swedish Black Hen), and Kadaknath chicken breeders. Fibromelanosis causes extensive black hyperpigmentation ( dermal melanin) across the skin, beak, comb, internal tissues, bones, and plumage.

  • Possible Genotypes (Results): Homozygous Dominant (Fm/Fm — true-breeding pure black phenotype) or Heterozygous (Fm/fm — carrier that may produce non-fibromelanistic offspring).
  • Why Breeders Test: Prevents cull traits and verifies purebred Ayam Cemani breeding stock before pairing or selling hatching eggs and chicks.
