DNA SEXING: FEATHERS
Includes:
Turnaround time: 2-4 working days after the laboratory receives the sample. Customer will receive an email once the samples arrive at the laboratory.
Type of sample: 3 to 4 freshly plucked feather samples attached -as indicated- on the printable sample form (no special paper needed to print it) or inside a small identified Ziploc bag. Make sure not to touch the tip/quill of the feather. More information on sample collection can be found here
Results: All results are available at the customer’s account at www.iqbirdtesting.com/my-account
The absence of sexual dimorphism in juvenile stages and during adulthood for many species of birds makes it difficult or impossible to determine the sex based on the phenotype. The use of molecular markers to determine the sex of birds is a useful tool because it is fast and accurate and also minimizes stress during blood sampling, compared with other invasive techniques that may affect the health or biological stability of the animal.
